With the urging of Dom Edmund Futterer, Abbot of Our Lady of the Valley, nuns from St. Mary's Abbey in Glencairn, Ireland accompanied by six American novices who had made their novitiate there, left the homeland in 1949 to make the first United States foundation of Trappistines. It is located in southern Massachusetts near the 300-year-old town of Wrentham.
